This week’s “Getaway” brings us to Hotel Zero Degrees in Danbury, a mere 20 minutes or so from our respective homes. Regardless of the short distance, this little staycation made us feel like we had traveled much farther. The moment we stepped through the glass sliding doors into the boutique hotel’s stunning lobby – we felt as if we had been teleported to some uber-modern Euro-lodge. Ready? Set? Getaway!

It had been much too long since our last “getaway,” so we decided on a quick and easy overnight stay and shopping trip to NYC. Don’t get us wrong, a trip to Paris would be lovely, but who has that kind of vacation time? Not us. We booked a night at the fantastique Hotel Elyseé located on East 54th Street between Park and Madison Avenue, i.e. luxury shopping central!

Come, we’ll show you around, and fill you in on our NYC adventure that includes being surrounded by thousands of police officers and a close encounter with Kathie Lee and Hoda…

Hopkins Inn

Getaway: The Hopkins Inn, Warren, CT

Occasion: Right in our backyard – it’s the perfect spot to celebrate the start of fall!

About: The Hopkins Inn overlooks the highly picturesque Lake Waramaug (8 flat miles in circumference – perfect for cycling, running, and walking). Hopkins is the quintessential Litchfield County country-inn and has it all – the restaurant, the views, cozy, comfortable, and a long-standing history. They even have their own salad dressing.

Boston! The next natural city to visit for a quick getaway, and quick it was – 46.5 hours to be exact! When time is limited it’s best to find yourself a lovely hotel to stay in that’s both relaxing and right in the middle of it all. Lora, the travel planning ninja, found Nine Zero. Location, location, location.

Hello. Welcome to our brand new category – Getaways. As much as we love our rolling hills of Litchfield County, the nature and country living, sometimes we get ants in our pants and itchy feet and have to just…Getaway. We’re going to pack our bags, hit the road, and have ourselves some adventures away from home. We’ll tell you where we stay, where we eat and what we do, in an enjoyable fun way; not in a snore-fest-please-stop-talking-about-your-vacation way (promise!). Maybe we’ll give you some ideas for some getaway time of your own.

Just days before we took the drive up to Salisbury, CT to dine and stay over at The White Hart Inn, it was announced that they had been selected as one of Bon Appétit‘s “50 Best New Restaurants” in the country! Our timing is impeccable once again. The drive through Litchfield County to get to the northwest corner is seriously beautiful; a photographer’s dream. As we drove through Salisbury our heads were doing 360 degree turns taking in a bunch of really great stores which we’re curious to go back and investigate.
