Byrde + the b

Ding, ding! Litchfield County just got really lucky! Globe-trotting, Emmy award winning stylist, Scott Bond has put down roots and opened Byrde + the b, a salon and dry bar in Washington Depot. Scott has been bopping around LA, London, and NYC for many years coloring and cutting clients hair at home, including some fabulous women such as Meredith Vieira, Kim Basinger, and Hope Davis. And now, we can all access Scott’s talents at his awesome new hair studio.

We stopped by to say hi to the team and enjoy some services. Blow dry and brows for Lora, brows and a six-inch chop for Bev!

The Green Spot

Gardening season is upon us! It’s prime time to putter around in the garden, plant some vegetables, add a couple of perennials to your repertoire, or go all out and have your abode completely landscaped. Since the Green Spot opened 4 years ago we’ve been meaning and wanting to stop by and check out their nursery and greenhouse. We’re glad we finally did; The Green Spot is not your average nursery. Pull on your Hunters and allow us to show you around…

A morning at the New Milford Farmers Market

Rejoice, it’s New Milford Farmers Market season!

Farmers markets are everything. They’re a place to get the freshest and most local fruit, vegetables, and flowers, as well as loads of other produce. They’re a venue to hang out with your neighbors and community. A place to spot really cute dogs, to people watch, and to eat baked goods. At the farmers market, you can learn about the items you’re buying straight from the experts and growers. Get cooking tips, and on this particular Saturday when we visited, pose on our red carpet in front of our Unlocking Litchfield step and repeat backdrop!

Grounded Goodwife

And now for something completely different! Herbal remedies, paranormal activities, life stories, vortexes, and special tonic shots…this post has it all.

Velya Jancz-Urban (mom, historian) and Ehris Urban (daughter, herbalist) form “Grounded Goodwife,” a business based out of their Woodbury 1770s colonial farmhouse home, offering hands-on unique herbal workshops & presentations. Classes begin with a tour of the home the family purchased in 2011, which is like taking a step back in time to colonial days. The Urban family and their 247-year-old home have many a tale to tell and lessons to teach…

Sedona Getaway & Hiking Tips by Sportsmen’s

Hello, my name is Lora and I’ve got “Red Rock Fever”. Wait, what? Many people develop this “condition” after visiting Sedona for the first time. Symptoms include a lump in the throat and teary eyes when it’s time to go home.

This magical Arizona town had been on my bucket list for years, so the hubs and I planned a trip for some hiking fun. If you haven’t been, maybe you’ll understand why I had to wipe those tears away after you see the photos below…

Adventure in Woodbury

We just had the best little adventure in Woodbury, CT. In the space of about 4.5 hours, we climbed to the top of an 80-foot structure with a ridiculous view (higher than the tree tops). Then we drove less than a mile to get to our friend Cathy B’s new store, which is so exciting for us Litchfield County lovers of good fashion. Culminating with, you guessed it, food and a light afternoon beverage, at El Camión. Fresh tacos al fresco with a Mexican beer on a sunny Saturday afternoon, ahh. Watch out for many more of these Litchfield County day trip adventures!

Valley Spirit

In this crazy overloaded world we live in, we could probably all use a visit to Valley Spirit Cooperative & Wellness Center in Washington Depot. This is definitely a place for some good self-care. The studio is beautiful, the people welcoming, and the class and therapy offerings are diverse. Classes include meditation, Tai Chi & Qi Gong, and yoga, and therapy options include Chinese medical massages, acupuncture, cupping, and organic facials.

Valley Spirit opened last year and we’ve been eyeing it up on the occasions we’ve passed it. After we realized it wasn’t a liquor store, we were extra intrigued and couldn’t wait to go, “unlock” ’em!
