Bethany Watson – Elvis Duran & the Morning Show

Bethany Watson is a co-host on the extremely popular iHeartRADIO “Elvis Duran and the Morning Show,” which has millions of listeners tuning in every day. Bethany is also a kindred spirit. She is never without a coffee in hand…and if she is, then there’s a cocktail in its place. She keeps us up-to-date with the news and what’s trending, and can be (self-admittedly) totally nerdy (she does a piece on the morning show called Hip Hop Clarinet).

Lora knew Bethany from a previous photoshoot, so we said, “Hey Bethany, we’re going to be in the city, can we come visit you at the studio and ask you a bunch of random questions?” to which she replied, “Suuuuure, come on over!” She’s super nice like that.

MOMIX – Behind the scenes

We couldn’t have been more thrilled to be invited to spend some time “behind the scenes” with the MOMIX dance company before their performance at the Warner Theater. Who hasn’t sat in the audience, waiting for the curtain to lift and the magic to begin, and wondered what’s going on back there?! We felt truly privileged to sit in with some of the dancers as they went through their pre-performance practices.

The Hotel Elysée

Hotel Elysee, NYCwallpaper Hotel Elyseechandelier Hotel Elysee

It had been much too long since our last “getaway,” so we decided on a quick and easy overnight stay and shopping trip to NYC. Don’t get us wrong, a trip to Paris would be lovely, but who has that kind of vacation time? Not us. We booked a night at the fantastique Hotel Elyseé located on East 54th Street between Park and Madison Avenue, i.e. luxury shopping central!

Come, we’ll show you around, and fill you in on our NYC adventure that includes being surrounded by thousands of police officers and a close encounter with Kathie Lee and Hoda…

Simple Tips to Better Smartphone Photos

Are you ready for some simple tips to get better cell phone photos? Well, here you go! I’ve compiled my “secret” tricks to make phone pics look like you used a professional camera. Sometimes it’s just easier to carry my phone in my back pocket while traveling, rather than lugging my 3.5 pound 5D Mark II around while walking up and down the streets of San Francisco, or while out on a hike!

Fife ‘n Drum Restaurant & Inn

Restaurant: Fife ‘n Drum Restaurant, 53 Main Street, Kent, Connecticut

When you are hankering for: New American, eclectic, seasonal, comforting food. A restaurant steeped in history (family run and owned since 1973) serving up some classic favorites plus specialties that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else around here. When you want to sit by the fire and have the best Caesar salad or filet au poivre made for you tableside. Also, for those who like to choose from an extensive wine list (28 pages and they have made the Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence every year since 1992). The Fife ‘n Drum is a beloved Kent institution. The ambiance feels like a hug from a loved one – it’s so darn cozy. The perfect place to go after an afternoon of shopping in Kent on a cold, frosty day! We loved every moment of our 20-course meal…

Our New Year Resolutions…

…yeah, you saw those dots. We take new years resolutions with a grain of salt because we think every day is a day to resolve to be more fabulous than yesterday!

In any case, here we have our resolutions for 2017…we’ll try our best to stick to them. Please comment below with any of yours, however serious or funny. We love it when you comment, share, like, heart, emoji, whatever us. 😁😁🙋🏼🙋🏼

We can’t believe how many amazing people we’ve met and businesses we “unlocked” in 2016 (hence the trip down memory lane with all the pics above)! We’re so excited for 2017 and the adventures we’ll surely have…and of course, we can’t wait to launch Unlocking Fairfield (January 9th, btw).

Happy New Year everyone!

Cheers!

At home with Moses Pendleton

MOMIX is an internationally acclaimed dance company based in Washington Depot. We joined Choreographer and Artistic Director Moses Pendleton and Associate Director Cynthia Quinn at their home, also in Washington Depot, for a fireside chat.

Moses Pendleton impressed us with his passion and enthusiasm about pretty much every topic we spoke about. We both left the interview inspired and seeing nature and our surroundings in a slightly different perspective. Moses and MOMIX will do that to you!

Kate’s Saddlery & Feed Store

Whoa! Litchfield County just got a brand new store. Kate’s Saddlery opened in Morris three weeks ago and Kate Scappini, new biz owner, invited us to come check it out, Unlocking Litchfield style. We love that drive up to Morris and felt we could always use a new pair of jodhpurs, so off we trotted…

The Little Guild

Everything is just plain better when you hug a dog or cuddle a cat (those with allergies, sorry, does not apply). We decided to schedule a visit to an animal shelter during the extra busy weeks leading up to the holidays. A visit to The Little Guild in West Cornwall was just what we needed – a little animal loving is good for the soul.

There was a lot of wiggle to put up with but Lora’s a pro. Check out the pics – so cute! If you see anyone you like, give us a shout, we’ll meet you at the shelter and give an introduction!

Lulu Face Company

Raise your hand if you have ever walked into Sephora and felt completely overwhelmed and walked back out again. Or, your makeup routine is pretty much the same as how you did it in high school. Or, if you’d love to find a cosmetic line that’s easy to use, is skincare quality, and comes with a little guidance from the experts. Between Lora and I, all hands are raised!

Our Fairy Beauty Godmother – as we named Linda Temkin, the owner of Les Beaux Vous back when we did one of our very first blog posts – has created a makeup line that we both love. We’ve been wearing/using Lulu Face Company since the summer when Linda asked us to be guinea pigs and give her feedback. We were happy to oblige!
