As Marie Antoinette supposedly said, “Let them eat cake!” And so, we did…With my wedding planning in full gear, it was time to taste test different flavors made by our chosen baker for the big day, AmandaBakes. Note: my fiancé didn’t hesitate at all when I mentioned we were going to be meeting up with Amanda Glover to eat cake. Now, with other planning meetings…well, not so much enthusiasm. We headed up to South Farms in Morris, CT with our taste buds and bellies ready. You know, for the sake of the guests…
If you’ve been to the Morris Marketplace at South Farms, you’ve certainly seen Amanda’s 1978 Airstream trailer where she sells her homemade goodies – did I mention she often sells out before the day is over? Unlocking Litchfield has definitely stood in line a time or two (see pic below from our visit there last summer). Having started her business in 2014, a pastry chef and a graduate of the CIA, Amanda loves creating custom cakes, themed cupcakes, and pastries for any event. In fact, she’ll actually bring the Airstream to your event and serve guests from the retrofitted kitchen inside!
For custom order customers, Amanda emails a packet with information on 15 (yes, fifteen!) cake flavors (just a starter – she can make almost any flavor you can conjure up), fillings, and icing choices. We chose 4 for our tasting – chocolate, lemon, vanilla, and coconut. Yes, they were good. Yes, we may have had more than once slice of each cake, but the cute little size of the demo cakes just screamed to be eaten in one sitting…just teasing, we did get to bring home what we didn’t finish.
I’m in love with the gold fairy dust…
Here are a couple of Amanda’s photos of her work (used with permission from her website)
Hey, caught in the act! My floral designer for the wedding, Sarah Worden, and South Farms owner, Ben Paletsky, couldn’t resist a taste or two…
Stay tuned for the post-wedding feature to see what Amanda created for our wedding. But for now, check out her website below and give her a call for your next birthday cake/cupcakes or event!
Thanks to South Farms for location.
