Through the large wrought iron gates marked “Rock” and “Hall” we follow the winding driveway past the grass tennis court, well-established trees (all marked with which special species they are) and finally to a circular gravel driveway complete with statue and small garden in the center. We park in front of the manor house (which was designed by renowned architect Addison Minzer in 1912) and head on in to meet the owner and innkeeper of the Rock Hall Luxe Inn, Michael Somers. If we were to compare this “getaway” to a movie, as we frequently like to do, this one would be The Great Gatsby.

You know we like to try to match our wardrobes to our surroundings and adventures when at all possible. Not sure why; we can’t seem to help it. Knowing that Rock Hall Luxe Inn (where we were going for our next Getaway feature and featured on the blog tomorrow) was a beautiful mansion on a 23-acre estate in Colebrook, we decided that R. Derwin ladies store would be the perfect collection to wear there. With its enchanting gardens, gravel driveways, fountains, grass tennis courts, and majestic stairways, we felt the inn required classic clothing, luxurious fabrics, and maybe just a hint of a bygone Hollywood era.

Salvatore Anthony Hair Studio, located in one of Litchfield County’s prettiest villages (New Preston), opened for business in April. Acting as Litchfield County’s welcome wagon, we visited Sal for a little “getting to know you” session! We were also in need of a really good hair day for our J. Seitz & Co. fashion shoot, so things worked out perfectly.

Sal’s Aveda hair studio is elegant (cashmere drapes and leather clad shelves), modern, and comfortable. A handsome, huggable, and talented hair colorist/stylist – Sal divides his time between NYC (where he is a Master Stylist at the Scott J. Salon) and his studio in New Preston (find him there by appointment Thursday, Friday, and Saturday).

We yelled out our questions over the noise of the dryer…here’s what we think we heard… 😉

Whoa, we’re all over Litchfield County this week on the blog! Today we’re sharing our dinner and conversation with Carole Peck at her infamous restaurant in these parts, Good News Cafe, Woodbury. When we say sharing our dinner, understand we’re sharing Lora’s amazing photos…there were certainly no leftovers!

Ahh, J. Seitz & Co., what a beauty of a store. Every single thing is pleasing to the eye! From the store, to being in the cutest of towns (New Preston), to the merchandise they carry. Oh, and the most awesome waterfall just outside at the back of the store. On an Instagram/Pinterest aesthetic rating of 1 to 10, it’s a 9.5.

J. Seitz & Co. is celebrating their 30th year in business and happens to be a bit of an institution in Litchfield County. A long-established destination store, they carry just about everything: women’s and men’s fashion, baby clothing, gifts, home furnishings, accessories, jewelry…and the list goes on. One-stop exquisite shopping.

Come with us and we’ll show you around…as we so enjoy doing!

Today’s fashion post is brought to you by J. Seitz & Co., located in the extremely picturesque town of New Preston. Amanda Seitz, co-store owner, and F.I.T. graduate put together these amazing outfits for us! Enjoy a little virtual shopping, and plan a trip in the near future. Can’t get there anytime soon? You can also order by phone ☎️

Hair styled by Salvatore Anthony Hair Studio (learn more about him later this week!) and shot on location around New Preston.

Last year we attended the Housatonic Valley Association Benefit Auction and witnessed a gymnasium full of passionate people raise thousands of dollars for the HVA – aiding the continuation of its important work; protecting land and water throughout the 83 towns in the tri-state Housatonic River Valley. The HVA also provides education and training programs to our schools and community on conservation awareness. And, among the countless other things the HVA does, they produce this awesome Paddling Guide to the Housatonic River.

We were honored to be invited to experience a paddle trip adventure organized by the HVA. The Source-to-Sound 10-day paddle trip is led by 3 expert canoe guides. The 149 mile stretch from Muddy Pond, MA, to Shelton, CT, is split into 26 sections with different difficulty rankings, from beginner to expert.  No, we did not do the 10-day excursion (though some we met did) – just section Q – beginner; a 4.2 mile stretch from Kent School to Bulls Bridge, Kent. Having paddled part of this section many times, I could reassure Lora that no, she would not capsize, and no, she would definitely not lose her camera over the side [Lora’s note: I did believe Bev, however I brought my little back up camera instead of the 5D Mark II – a girl’s gotta be safe!].

Sarah Worden is an amazingly creative Litchfield County based floral and event designer who has definitely made her mark. So when searching for someone to design my wedding flowers and arrangements, I reached out to her. My fiancé Michael and I met up with Sarah at The White Barn at South Farms to start our planning process for the wedding…

John Scofield is and artist and designer living in Sharon, CT with his wife Bartley Johnstone, and their daughter, Evie. John’s folding music stand is in the permanent design collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. His work has been published and reviewed in Arts, Design Times, Elle Decor, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, Metropolis, New York Times, Progressive Architecture, Traditional Home, Vogue and other publications. We visited with John and Bartley a couple of weeks ago, and we present to you; “At Home with John Scofield.”

Winlar caftans are made with the highest quality fabrics and trims. Their prints are one of a kind originals and are exclusive to the brand. You know they’re doing something right; they’ve been family owned since 1913 and release new designs frequently, so it’s easy to want to stock up. Hey, celebs are wearing them, and we think they are great for lounging, pool side, dressed up with some snazzy sandals…the possibilities are endless (and comfy)!

Where’s the name come from? Owner Joe Josephs tells us it’s a combination of his father and uncle’s names irWIN and LARry…we love it!

We pulled off a little photo shoot while we were away on Lora’s bachelorette weekend at the Cranwell Resort & Spa!

Read our take on these caftans at the end (plus, there’s a lil something for you)!
